Inside the Computer


To some people, the inside of their computer is a forbidden place. A land where only the bravest of computer geeks dare to tread. But fear not! You too can learn the wonders of your PC, and it's as easy as opening your box. And don't worry, you're not going to break anything by opening your case...EXCEPT YOUR FEAR OF COMPUTERS!!

How exactly do I open my computer?
Well first, make sure your computer is off and that it is unplugged. (Safety first right?) After that is taken care of and everything is disconnected from your computer look for either screws or some sort of push button mechanism. If you bought your computer from a retailer, this information is easy enough to find by reading the manuals supplied with your computer. If you can't find these manuals or are too lazy to look for them, again, just look for screws that you can take out or some larger than life button looking thing that when pressed, allows your computer to opened.

A pause for tips and reminders It's always a good practice when dealing with small screws or parts to keep an ashtray type object around to hold them so they are not hastily forgotten on a counter or misplaced in a rug. And before dealing with the insides of your computer, you always want to make sure you dispel any electric charge you're carrying. The easiest way to do that is by touching any metal surface before opening your computer. You can also get a grounding strap which is generally a Velcro strap with a metal piece fixed it that can help get rid of static charges. And with that...

Congrats! You should have no opened your computer! (Which in itself can be a feat for most). Now we just have to learn what's in here.
